Scottish fishermen have been at the forefront in pioneering a range of conservation and sustainability initiatives in recent years.  We are proud of our record and are determined to continue our work. Change is happening, and happening at a good rate, but it needs to be done so in a carefully managed and coherent manner to give the fleet time to adapt. It is all too easy to impose sudden ‘knee-jerk’ fisheries management responses without giving due consideration to the impact it may have on our fishing communities and the supply of an incredibly important food resource. If there are no fishermen left because of ill-judged management, then there will be no more seafood on our tables.
